Position:       2nd Shift Production Supervisor
 
Schedule:     3:00 pm-1:30am, Monday-Thursday  
 
Summary: 
The 2nd Shift Production Supervisor is responsible for managing evening production activities, which include maintaining the shop schedule, supervising the operation of machines, ensuring parts are being produced according to the correct manufacturing and quality plans, and leading the team to bring out their best in quality, performance and productivity.  This position is responsible for ensuring the quality of all parts produced as well as the safety of all employees working on second shift. Reports to Production Manager.
 
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
  • Supervise 2nd shift production activities; Understand schedule priorities and the status of all jobs that should be running; Ensure that parts are moving through the correct processes, with the proper documentation, and that acceptable production rates are being met;
  • Work closely with Department Managers to ensure top priorities are covered; Facilitate communication between 1st and 2nd shifts; Conduct the nightly shift meeting prior to the start of the shift; Provide daily updates on progress made and difficulties encountered to help ensure a smooth transition from and back to 1st shift; Facilitate problem-solving between operators, Engineering, Quality and other resources to ensure product keeps flowing; Make adjustments to work plans as necessary and maintain open communication with the appropriate managers on any issues or delays.
  • Coordinate the efforts of Team Leaders and production personnel to ensure the quality of all parts produced during the shift; Enforce proper handling and segregation of potentially non-conforming parts and material; Assist and train less skilled workers with inspection equipment, including micrometers, calipers, optical comparators and CMMs as needed; Work directly with the Quality department to verify that proper inspection techniques are being used at all times.
  • Provide leadership, management, and motivation to attain high levels of employee achievement and retention; Accomplish results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; Enforce policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and Work Instructions;
  • Create and maintain a physically and socially safe work environment; Ensure workers are following proper safety procedures and codes of conduct.

  • Ensure adherence to all ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.
 

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field or extensive manufacturing and leadership experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting; Demonstrated ability to lead by example, promoting a culture of quality and safety; Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Engineering, blueprint interpretation, and GD&T experience preferred; Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, lean methodologies, and continuous improvement principles a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills; Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (especially Excel); Experience with ERP systems beneficial but not required; Familiarity with Infor Visual Manufacturing a plus.
  • Flexible, work with a high sense of urgency, and able to get along well with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, dealing with day-to-day complexities of a manufacturing environment
