Position:  CNC Pre-Engineer Level 4 (1st and 2nd shift)
 
Summary: 
This position uses Tri-Mack's CNC and Manual machines as well as software packages to improve part processes across the department.  This position tackles the most challenging problems within the department by modifying machining technique, re-programing parts, and re-making work holding. CNC Pre-Engineer Level 4 requires some experience making simple programs from scratch, or modifying existing programs for new applications.
 
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
  • Train  CNC machinists levels 2 and 3 on all aspects of CNC machining within the department.
  • Advise CNC Machinists on improvements to measurement technique for all parts within the department. Run CMM routines to determine part conformance.
  • Understand all components of a blueprint and application to manual measurement techniques. Understand common customer specifications and their application to a print.
  • Verify set-up file content identify correct loading techniques and correct where needed. Identify areas to facilitate loading and unloading to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Conduct all tool changes. Apply knowledge to explore area's where tooling life can be optimized and work with engineering to implement changes to the set up.
  • Demonstrate full control of machining, including conversational programing.
  • Troubleshoot dimensional non-conformance that involves adapting machining technique. Work with engineering to implement program modifications.
  • Be aware of material traceability requirements and work in a way the ensures traceability is maintained by recording material lot numbers where appropriate, and verifying raw material documentation matches picklists provided.  Identify opportunities where raw material shape, size, style can be optimized for better production.
  • Verify all set-ups are correct in the department. Coach set up technicians on improved technique. Look for areas to optimize set-ups to improve department efficiency.
  • Advise on improvements to maintenance tasks taking into consideration cost/benefit of solutions. 
  • Keep work station clean and organized.
  • Work in a manner that ensures your own safety and the safety of your co-workers. Always use correct PPE, and never run a machine without proper guarding.
  • Conduct yourself in an ethical and professional manner and always follow Tri-Mack values:  Respect, Teamwork, Integrity, Accountability and Durability
  • Adhere to all AS9100 requirements as specified in work instructions and by your supervisor.

Skills & Experience

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience on set-ups for CNC milling and/or lathes machines is required.
  • Ability to modify existing programs is required.
  • Solid understanding of blueprints and specifically GD&T is required.
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, sit and lift up to 40 pounds for 8 to 12 hours per day.
  • General math knowledge and ability to calculate and solve certain geometric problems.
  • Ability to use and understand all measuring tools.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Reliable, able to get along with co-workers and support others as needed.
