Supply Chain Manager
Position Summary: The Supply Chain Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of Tri-Mack’s material and subcontract supply chain. This includes working with suppliers, sales and production to plan and coordinate the flow of materials from supplier to finished goods; and ensure raw material is available on time for production while maintaining appropriate inventory controls. In addition, the Supply Chain Manager supervises all outside services, material testing and subcontract work communicating all issues to the appropriate departments. The Supply Chain Manager works constantly with suppliers to negotiate pricing as well as evaluate and rate performance. Finally, this position is responsible for managing the employees within the department and ensuring they are properly crossed trained and able to perform most functions effectively within the department.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Supply Chain
• Establish and maintain active relationships with all Tri-Mack raw material suppliers and subcontractors.
• Develop a supplier evaluation system based on on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness and other metrics. Use that information to determine future purchases and negotiate pricing (competitive bidding). Work with QC to qualify any new suppliers.
• Identify opportunities for second or third source qualified suppliers and subcontractors and tooling vendors.
• Negotiate long term agreements with vendors on behalf of Tri-Mack.
• Develop improvement plans with underperforming suppliers. Communicate any issues or delays to the appropriate departments.
• Participate in sales strategy and marketing development.
• Maintain an understanding of developments and trends in the industry and implement strategies that strengthen Tri-Mack's supply chain position.
• Troubleshoot any issues relating to purchasing, suppliers, materials testing, subcontractors, etc.
• Collect and process data, including reports and forecasts, to determine trends; communicate actions and strategies.
Purchasing and Department Supervision
• Closely supervise the purchasing and subcontracting agents to ensure the real demand for raw material is understood and that orders are placed on time in order to satisfy production.
• Be Tri-Mack’s custodian and expert for Tri-Mack material specifications and testing procedures.
• Act as leader for the Materials Department in the daily Buffer meeting. Know the status of all orders/deliveries.
• Manage the day to day activities of the employees in the materials department, including annual evaluations.
• Work closely with all departments to promote teamwork in developing strategies and achieving corporate goals.
Inventory Control
• Maintain an accurate perpetual inventory in the Visual system of all raw material and finished goods by supervising correct issues, receipts and adjustments and overseeing the cycle counts.
• Report inventory balances on a monthly basis and write-down parts as necessary.
• Supervise the year end full physical inventory count.
• Lead LEAN initiatives to make the most of the Raw, WIP, and Finished goods inventory. Effectively communicate these core principles to the rest of the organization.
• Keep the department and warehouse orderly and customer ready at all times.
Education, Skills & Experience:
• BA/BS in Business or Manufacturing is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years in a purchasing and warehouse management position is required.
• Experience ordering raw materials and subcontracting to detailed specifications.
• Experience with managing inventory in a LEAN manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with Visual Manufacturing or similar ERP systems is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively, both verbally and in writing are required.
• Some travel is required.
• Established computer skills in MS Office required and Visual Manufacturing preferred.
• Ability to learn quickly, work with a minimum amount of supervision and get along with others.
